Mi’gmawei Mawiomi Business Corporation (MMBC) is committed to supporting the next generation of leaders within our Mi'gmaq communities. Through initiatives such as career fair participation, educational contests, site visits, scholarships, and engaging educational materials, MMBC helps youth gain the skills and knowledge needed for future success.

Career Fairs

MMBC participates in local career fairs to connect Mi'gmaq youth with potential employers, internships, and educational opportunities, particularly in industries where the Mi'gmaq are establishing a presence, like renewable energy and IT. These events help students and young job seekers learn about the skills needed in the modern job market and the various career paths available to them.

Drawing Contest

MMBC has organized a drawing contest on renewable energy projects like the Mesgi'g Ugju’s’n wind farm. These contests aim to engage younger community members creatively. The contest helps raise awareness about sustainable energy projects and fosters a sense of community involvement and pride.

Site Visits to the Mesgi'g Ugju's'n Wind Farm

MMBC offers site visits to the MU wind farm for students and community members. These visits provide firsthand experience with large-scale renewable energy projects, allowing participants to see how wind power is harnessed and understand the technology and environmental considerations involved.

Scholarship and Bursary Program

MMBC launches its scholarship and bursary program every spring/summer to support Mi'gmaq students in Gespe'gewa'gi pursuing higher education. This annual financial aid helps students reduce educational expenses, allowing them to focus on achieving their academic and career goals without the burden of financial stress.

Comic Book Creation: "Mesgi’g Ugju’s’n"

Together with the First Nations of Québec and Labrador Sustainable Development Institute (FNQLSDI), we have developed a comic book titled "Mesgi’g Ugju’s’n." This book follows characters Sabryna and Jennifer as they learn about the wind farm project in Gespege'wa'gi. It illustrates the use of natural elements for sustainable energy and connects the story to Mi'gmaq cultural teachings.

Expanding Initiatives

While most of our current youth engagement activities are associated with the Mesgi'g Ugju's'n project, we plan to implement similar initiatives in our new wind maintenance and IT investments. These sectors will provide fresh platforms for educational and practical experiences, helping to prepare our youth for diverse career opportunities.

Conclusion

MMBC’s initiatives are crucial for equipping Mi'gmaq youth with the education, skills, and opportunities needed to thrive. By investing in these programs, MMBC supports individual growth and ensures the continued prosperity and sustainability of the Mi'gmaq communities.
